What to look for in an EV charging host agreement

What to look for in an EV charging host agreement

A host agreement is the document that matters. Before you sign any, make sure it answers these questions in plain words. Have your own attorney review it too.

1. How and when are you paid?

Your payment should be written down, not described in a brochure. If a company will not put it in writing, treat that as your answer.

2. Who runs and maintains the chargers?

Payments, pricing, maintenance, repairs, network service, and driver support should all have a named owner. At GreeneEV, they are ours.

3. What is expected of you?

For most hosts it is providing the parking and keeping it open to the public. Check that nothing else is buried in there.

4. What happens before anything is built?

Nothing should be built without your signed agreement. Terms, including your payment, should be settled first.

5. Who owns and controls the property?

Everyone who has to sign must be identified early. Better on paper now than halfway through.

6. How long does it last, and how does it end?

Ask about the term, renewal, and what happens to the equipment at the end.

7. What are the promises about funding?

Be wary of anyone who treats a grant as certain. Funding is competitive and never guaranteed.
